Control-It nail biting treatment is also advertised for thumb and finger sucking.  It is a widely available nail biting polish that claims it can help a child stop the nail biting or thumb sucking habit. Nail biting, cuticle biting and thumbsucking are common things that many children (and adults) find themselves struggling with. If you, or a loved one suffers from the annoying habit of nail or cuticle biting or thumbsucking, you are well aware of the fact that trying to break the habit can be incredibly difficult. Perhaps, like many people, you have tried several different options from going cold turkey to bitter tasting nail polishes and have had no success.

Anti-Nail Biting Cream DOES NOT WORK for thumb suckers. It is designed for daytime nail biters – and only offers a little reminder. Obviously won’t work while your child is sleeping and their taste buds are turned off. Children under four years old don’t dislike the taste because they haven’t yet developed taste buds to dislike it yet. Nail cream was developed for nails, not thumbs.

Any kind of bad tasting application that goes onto the fingernail will likely fail for thumb sucking and finger sucking.  This is because digit sucking is primarily a nocturnal habit, and the taste buds are effectively “turned-off” while sleeping – so fingers with Control-It can unknowingly be in the mouth while sleeping, only to wake up to a nasty surprise.

What is Control It?

Control It nail biting treatment has been developed to really help you want to stop putting your fingers in your mouth because of the nasty taste. The cream has been noted to linger on your lips as well if you do end up falling short of your goal not nail biting, thumb sucking or finger sucking, which helps to serve as a reminder to just not do it. To use it, you simply rub the easy to apply cream to your fingertips either with a Q-Tip or just your own fingers.

Is Control It Safe?

Big question. Especially if you have little kids who you are trying to break the habit from. Control It is one of the few products on the market that use all natural ingredients, however a downside is that it easily washes off so frequent application is needed.

Control It nail biting ingredients:

  • Distilled Water
  • Aloe Vera Leaf Juice
  • Natural Oils and Vitamins
  • Stearic Acid
  • Soy Oil
  • Cetyl Alcohol
  • Emulsifying Wax
  • Vegetable Glycerin
  • Palmitic Acid
  • Potassium Sorbate

What are the Pros?

Control It is a in a friendly pocket-sized container, and is easy to apply.  Simply dip your finger in.  The flavor is of course strongly unpleasant (but not as strong as other thumb sucking nail polish products).  If dries clear, and as discussed above it is a natural deterrent.

The real pro is that if you are successful using it, and the fingers are kept out of the mouth, you won’t have the embarrassment, you’ll be able to open soda cans, and you’ll get sick significantly less!

What are the Cons?

It’s probably safe to say that the #1 con is that Control It nail biting cream tastes gross – but really, that’s the point!  However it is not as intensely bitter as other thumbsucking nail polish, and some young children especially get used to the flavor quickly and are not bothered by it. Another con is the fact that Control It has been noted to wash off pretty easily, as well as come off when sucking on the thumb.  Because it washes off easily you go through the cream pretty quickly, and the containers are surprisingly small.  For the amount you get, Control It is bit pricey, but its cost is comparable.  Natural always costs more.

The Bottom Line

Nail biting, thumb sucking, finger sucking and cuticle biting are habits that are not only annoying, but can actually get you sick and spread nasty germs (next time you bite your nails think about all the people who don’t wash their hands in public restrooms). The finger-to-mouth habit is one that is super hard to break though, so it should be noted that this product may work great for some and may not for others. Adults may have more mental power to break the psychological bond that nail biting and finger sucking have, whereas kids may not. And to the contrary, an adult may struggle more with quitting because they’ve simply been doing it for as long as they can remember. Regardless, if you are ready to finally take action against nail biting, thumb sucking, finger sucking and cuticle biting, Control It nail biting formula is an option to consider.

OUR FINAL CONCLUSION

  • Control It is best for nail biters who have self control and just need a little reminder.  Not recommended for thumb suckers.
  • Natural, easy to apply and carry in a pocket.
  • Not very strong and washes off easily.  Frequent application is needed.

  1. Tried this and was shocked at how small the containers are. Don’t need much but it isn’t too strong, only mildly effective.

  2. Works well when massaged into cuticle and fingers, but like anything requires additional will power and a desire to change to work long term. Definitely assists in healthy and more rapid nail reformation. Warning, never apply before handling foods or eating.
