Our Full Review

Ella+Mila has become a market leader for their line of nail products. Easily identifiable by the cute little elephant on the nail polish bottle, the brand seasonally comes out with new fashionable and trendy colors and strives to offer products without harmful chemicals by being 17 FREE.  Their box label lists the harmful ingredients commonly found in nail polish NOT included in their formula.  This brand appeals to a growing group of women concerned about the ingredients found in their cosmetics.

What is ella+mila No More Biting Nail Polish?

The ella+mila No More Biting Nail Polish claims to help stop nail biting and thumb sucking by applying the unpleasant tasting product to the nails. The solution is quick drying and may be applied over regular nail polish.

Wondering where to buy the ella+mila No More Nail Biting Nail Polish? Ulta, Target and some online retailers sell the 0.45 fl oz bottle for about $10.50.

The Ella+mila backs their motto, polish with love®, by being cruelty free and vegan, certified by PETA.

Anti-Nail Biting Polish DOES NOT WORK for thumb suckers at night. It is designed for daytime nail biters – obviously it won’t work while your child is sleeping and their taste buds are turned off. Children under four years old don’t dislike the taste because they haven’t yet developed a bad taste for it yet. Some kids get used to the bitter flavor unless it is very, very strong. Nail polish was developed for nails, not thumbs.

ella+mila No More Biting Ingredients:

ella+mila

Butyl acetate, Ethyl acetate, Isopropyl alcohol, Acrylates copolymer, Cellulose acetate butyrate, Denatonium benzoate, Dipropylene glycol dibenzoate.

How to Apply ella+mila No More Biting Nail Polish?

Application recommendation : Apply 1-2 coats on the entire nail, allowing thorough drying of each coat.

We have found the product must be reapplied at least every other day to maintain the strong bitter flavor on the nail. The bitter flavor will gradually weaken and will need to be reapplied by the end of the second day.  The flavor will easily transfer to food and the bitterness will be tasted with the slightest touch to the lips.  Some flaking may occur after two days so it is best to remove and reapply the polish if this occurs.  Even after you remove the product from the nail and it cannot be visibly seen on the nail, the bitterness may still be tasted on the nail.  The product is clear in the bottle, goes on clear and dries shiny on the nail. The brush and bottle are what you would expect from a nail polish. The packaging does not include special instructions about application or related information for best results regarding nail biting or thumb sucking.

ella+mila No More Biting Nail Polish for Thumbsucking

Most children have an immediate reaction to the foul taste at first.  But the ella+mila No More Biting Nail Polish will likely need to be reapplied regularly.  The parent should be the one to apply the product and to monitor the child’s reaction to it. Some children may not find the taste offensive at all or the taste buds may not have developed a distaste for the bitterness. This will depend on the child.

OUR FINAL CONCLUSION

It is important to be consistent about using the ella+mila No More Biting Nail Polish regularly to see results. The formula is strong enough to get your attention if you put your fingers to your lips and you will have an adverse reaction.  Over time, you may become familiar with the taste. It is important to reapply to keep the strength of the bitter taste on the nail. It is important to identify the triggers that prompt the person to nibble on the nails and to tailor the use of the product to the habit.

While no nail polish is completely free of chemicals, Ella+Mila has done a good job with the ingredients and formula strength of the No More Biting Nail Polish product.

  1. This product seems innocent enough with its cute little elephant on the bottle, but once it’s applied to your nails, it turns your fingers into vicious little demons oozing flesh-eating acid onto everything they touch. Hungry? Think again. Once you touch a piece of finger food, it takes on the bitter taste of the polish. Time to take your contacts out? Better wear gloves! The instant your finger makes contact with your eye, it feels like acid is eating away at your eyeball. The worst part is that you can’t even flush your own eye out with water since the water cupped in your hand also becomes contaminated with the vile substance. Then your eye swells shut so no one else can flush your eye out either. So, unless you want to gauge your own eyes out and never eat again, avoid this nail polish at all costs!

  2. I tried the product prior to applying on my 3 year olds fingers, and the whole family is putting it on together in solidarity with him. The taste is truly terrible, very bitter.
However, I have to keep reapplying it through the day for it to be an effective deterrent for his finger sucking. We’re only on day 2 and I have to reapply it at least twice a day. My son even came to me this evening and said there wasn’t enough and had me reapply it.

  3. It made my daughter throw up and I just wanted to give a word of caution. I have removed this from her thumb and now I’m just using a bandage to try to keep her from sucking thumb. Scary to say the least, so please keep this in mind for your little ones.
